SM Supermalls’ 43rd mall in the country, the 4th in the Visayas, and the second one in Cebu, SM City Consolacion is set to open its doors tomorrow, June 1, 2012!

After almost 19 years since its predecessor, SM City Cebu opened, the much-awaited second SM mall in Cebu is finally opening. Together with SM City Cebu, SM City Consolacion will serve the shopping, dining, and entertainment needs of the country’s most populated province, specifically the first class municipality of Consolacion and nearby cities and municipalities in Northern Cebu.

SM City Consolacion is a three-level shopping center which is a breather from the usual boxy SM mall designs as it features a vibrant, well-proportioned exterior appearance highlighted by a combination of crisp colors and materials and a dynamically patterned and curved facade, all detailed for a modern sophisticated appearance. When approaching the mall from the national highway, one will immediately take notice of a double-height iconic glass wall that gives a peek of the activity inside the mall.

Like most other SM malls, SM City Consolacion houses an SM Department Store and an SM Supermarket. It also features an al fresco dining area in its food court and a Cyberzone for the latest in tech gadgets and equipment. Four ALL-DIGITAL cinemas will serve the needs of avid moviegoers, even to as far as Lapu-Lapu City. A parking building at the back of the mall provides covered parking to close to 900 vehicles.

SM City Consolacion’s opening weekend will be star-studded! Make sure to check out the newest destination in town!

Libotero is privileged to have been invited to the mall’s blessing ceremonies earlier. Here’s a mini virtual tour of the new mall:

I entered the mall via the covered parking entrance, pictured above. SM City Consolacion has a basement level

The escalators pictured in the first photo leads directly to SM Cinema in the second level.

The SM Cinema ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Ms. Macky Rosero, SM Cinema Theater Manager of SM City Consolacion. She was joined by Rep. Luigi Quisumbing, of the 6th district where Consolacion belongs, Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and other key officials of SM.

Not long after, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPHI) President Hans Sy, SMPHI Vice President Marissa Fernan, and Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco joined them for a photo-op

Some work still needs to be finished at SM City Consolacion. Pictured above is the male restroom without any partition. Having walked through the whole mall, I could declare that SM City Consolacion still possesses the common problem among SM malls: the restrooms are too few and too far away from each other

SM City Consolacion
Guests were treated to a free screening of an SM Cinema Exclusive, Gone. The free screening was held at Cinema 3, the largest, with a seating capacity of 477, and a stage for live events. The three other cinemas have a seating capacity of 333 each. Take note that all 4 theaters are ALL-DIGITAL. Picture and sound-quality are among the best I’ve experienced.

A FREE movie treat won’t be complete without FREE popcorn and bottled drinks.

Now, let’s continue with our tour.

The cinema area is located at the back-most portion of the mall. Let’s walk towards the front.

We took the escalator going down and walked forward.

At the middle of the hallway, let’s look back. Pictured at the rightmost in the photo above is the escalator to/from the cinema area.

Moving on…

SM City Consolacion
We enter the main atrium area. To the right of Jollibee is another entrance, this time facing the open parking area in front of the mall. Also pictured above is the scenic glass elevator and sexy staircase. NOTE: While the mall has a 3rd level, it is still empty. For now, there aren’t any escalators leading to the third level and it can only be accessed through the elevator and staircase. We think this area is for future development or BPO locators perhaps.

We turn left towards the main atrium

Pictured above is the new name of the SM Department Store. It is now, THE SM STORE.

Curves. Lines. High-ceilings. Bright white lights. Wide open spaces. SM City Consolacion is a nice and modern community mall. Did you know that almost 50% of the mall’s floor area is devoted to open spaces? Although the mall is not really big, the wide open spaces make you feel otherwise.

SM City Consolacion
Behind the escalator is SM Supermarket, and a short hallway to the main entrance of the mall. Taking the escalator to the second floor would lead to the SM regulars Ace Hardware, SM Foodcourt (which affords a nice view of the Cebu North Road with its glass walls), and SM Cyberzone.

And that ends our mini-virtual tour of SM City Consolacion. Photos not enough? Go check out the mall when it opens tomorrow at 10am! A lot of stores have opening offers!

P.S.: The mall has free WiFi too! ;)
