Naga City, the Heart of Bicol

Part 2 of a series.

DAY 1.

It was 2:10pm when we finally arrived in Naga City, The Heart of Bicol.

Naga City Bicol

Based on our family’s experience, I could say that Naga is a not-so-friendly city for tourists. How? Well, the traffic system is really confusing. You’d enter what seems to be a two-way road to be shocked later on that it’s one-way. There are no road signs informing you of such. Were they thinking that Naga isn’t visited by tourists and that everyone is well-informed of the traffic schemes being implemented in the city? Think again. Good thing that the locals were very accommodating and friendly everytime we opened our car’s window to ask some questions.

I understand Naga’s situation though. It is a very small city, relatively smaller than its other counterparts in the Bicol Region, and it is currently booming a lot, so problems like traffic, are arising. But some properly placed road signs could have been very helpful. =)

Anyway, our main itinerary in Naga was to visit their Cathedral and the Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. While looking for both churches, we stumbled upon this very massive yet seemingly unfinished church. At first, I thought that it was the Metropolitan Cathedral, but it wasn’t. I learned later on that it was the San Francisco Assisi Church, which was unfinished because of the lack of funds.
