Cebu, Make Your Own Havaianas 2012!

Yesterday, Libotero was privileged to have been invited to the exclusive media and VIP launch of Make Your Own Havaianas 2012 at SM City Cebu. Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) is an annual event where you take full control on how your pair of Havaianas flip-flops would look like. You can choose from a palette of soles and straps, and set of embellishments. With nearly all the hues of the much coveted Havaianas collection available as your canvas, there are hundreds of possible combinations of soles and straps for Men and Women, in the popular Top and Slim styles.

This year, Havaianas takes us through a colorful and exciting tour back to where it all started. As the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary, Make Your Own Havaianas 2012 will definitely be the most special one yet. Havaianas will let us experience this through Make Your Own Havaianas’ exhibit. The Havaianas story is told through a blaze of color and fashion, showing how Havaianas paved the way for flip-flops to become a respected style statement the world over.

In true Havaianas fashion, self-expression has never been this chic with its ten special pins that speak volumes of its heritage. The happiness, 1962, Brasilipinas and soccer ball, all trace back to its roots in Brazil. Embellish these on soles that run the vibrant spectrum of the rainbow: from a pop rose, to an ice violet and lemon green, as mementos of this historic event. Plus, true blue “Havaianaticos” can select an exclusive Make Your Own Havaianas estampas sole. All these remind us of the beautiful bursts of sunshine on a warm summer day.

This is my fourth time to participate in the Make Your Own Havaianas event. Check out my MYOH creations in the previous years.

2009-2011

The area was opened to the invited VIP and media guests at 4pm and upon entrance, we were provided with a checklist to help us note our choices. It took me quite some time to decide on the color combination of my flip-flops. Good thing, roulettes with all the possible sole and strap color combinations were available. They helped me a lot in my selection. Volunteers were also around, willing to give their honest say on your choice sole and strap color combination.

So after I’ve made up my mind on the sole-strap color combination and the pins, I took note of them using the checklist. I then headed to the assembly area and waited for my turn at the counter. When my turn has arrived, I was surprised too see the same guy who assembled my flip-flops for the last three years. For the fourth year in a row, he’ll be assembling my flip-flops, grreat!

Here’s how a pair of Havaianas flip-flops is assembled from scratch. Punching pins into the straps is usually the most tedious and time consuming part of the process. The assembler will ask you where and how you’d like your pins to be punched. The straps are then attached to the soles.

After all that, the MYOH assembler will present to you your MYOH masterpiece for final inspection.

Joe with my MYOH 2012 “masterpiece”. I would’ve wanted a violet sole since I already have a blue-soled MYOH creation (2009) albeit of a darker hue. This year, there are some colors that were not among the choices in the previous years but they’re not available probably because they sold like pancakes in the Manila leg of MYOH. For that, I went for a sea and sun color-combo. Blue sole and yellow strap with “Happiness”, “1962″ and two crystal pins.
