Binalayan Falls in Samboan, Cebu

March 6, 2020 by Sinjin Pineda No Comments

There are at least six waterfalls in the southern tip of Cebu, (Oslob: Tumalog Falls, Ginatilan: Inambakan Falls, Samboan: Binalayan Falls, Dao Falls, Aguinid Falls), and if you’re sedentary like me, trekking might not be your thing.

But, Binalayan Hidden Falls in Samboan is definitely worth the little sweat!

How to get there

From the Cebu South Bus Terminal, ride a bus bound for Bato (via Barili). Take note that there are two buses bound for Bato, the other one passes through the eastern coast while the one via Barili takes the western coast. Fare is P175. Alight at Samboan and hire a “habal-habal” to Binalayan Falls.

If you are driving, you can’t miss it as there is a sign by the highway.

“Leisurely Trek”

To get to the Binalayan Falls, one would have to take a 15-30 minute (depending on your pace) “leisurely trek”. Register first at the Visitors Center where you will be assigned a local guide. Tipping is not imposed, but just think of it as your donation for the locals, and the sustainability of the place and activity. After all, the local guide will not only accompany but also offer to take your photographs and assist you along the way.

The trek takes you to a mostly flat coconut grove. Definitely not something that would excite the adventure junkies, but the dirt trail is so peaceful with towering coconut trees. You’ll reach a point where you need to cross three small streams. It’s quite slippery so wear the appropriate footwear. (P.S. I just wore my trusty Havaianas flip-flops lol).

You’ll know that you’re approaching the waterfalls when you start hearing gushing water, and see makeshift swings made of old tires and ropes tied to the trees. Just a few hundred steps more and you’ll reach the main falls.

2020. A lot of things could be said about you. You 2020. A lot of things could be said about you. You are terrible, to say the least. But if we ask ourselves, what went right this year? โฃ
โฃ
2020 taught me the real meaning of true friendship and genuine human connections. This year enlightened me with a lot of lessons, but the most important is: focus only on what matters, among them are family and a tight core of friends. We donโ€™t need many, we just need a few real ones who we can celebrate good times with and provide support during the bad. A solid support system boosts our confidence and worth, and our well-being especially during this pandemic.โฃ
โฃ
While 2020 felt like a roller coaster ride, it definitely isnโ€™t the worst year for me. I am happy that as the year comes to a close, I, my family, and friends are all still healthy and alive.โฃ
โฃ
To everyone I met, to those who left, to those I removed, to all of you who became part of my 2020, Thank You! You all had an impact and I will take all the learnings to 2021.โฃ
โฃ
The last day of the year is a celebration of collective dreams. Although we have been taken aback by the overall gloom of 2020, much of it was beyond our control and I remain hopeful that 2021 will be a much better year. โฃ
โฃ
Thank you, next! HAPPY NEW YEAR, mga ka-GLORIOUS!โฃ

Really got excited about this delivery: Belleโ€™s Really got excited about this delivery: Belleโ€™s Refreshing Juice of Davao City is now in Cebu!โฃ
โฃ
Tried out their eight regular flavors and I could attest that the juices indeed are made of pure fruits and veggies and have no preservatives and additives. Some of the juices have sugar, but in very low quantities. โฃ
โฃ
Since it has no preservatives, it has to be covered in ice while being transported and must be kept chilled, opened or unopened. It could last 10-15 days unopened, but must be consistently chilled or else fermentation will be unstoppable. Once opened, consume within 3-5 days.โฃ
โฃ
Theyโ€™re available in 1 Iiter and 3.75 liter gallons. โฃ
